Prescription Drug Program Saves Members Money

The ODS pharmacy department is currently working to inform members about a preferred alternative for the allergy medications Allegra, Clarinex and Zyrtec that could save members money. Astelin Nasal Spray is indicated for seasonal allergic rhinitis and unlike the oral antihistamines listed above, is also indicated for non-allergic rhinitis (irritation caused by smoke, perfumes, etc.). Astelin Nasal Spray is a Preferred Drug at ODS, allowing for co-pay savings of $10-$35 versus Allegra, Clarinex or Zyrtec. Being a first-line prescription for allergies, Astelin also offers a full range of symptom relief including relief of nasal congestion.

Using Astelin will save members money by allowing them to purchase medication at a lower cost. A member could possibly save up to $300 a year. For example, if their co-pays are $10/$25/$50, their co-pay for Astelin Nasal Spray will be $25 (preferred brand). The co-pay for Allegra, Zyrtec and Clarinex will be $50 (Non-Preferred).
